ROCK FOR ROCKWOOD
In January of 2016, I approached the non-profit I work for and asked if I could attempt to throw a benefit show that would raise money for the Rockwood Boys & Girls Club. I began a grass roots effort of emailing, cold calling and networking with the Portland music community. I received a lot of interest and positive feedback. In May of 2016, my organization BGCP and I were thrilled to partner with Next Northwest and Sub Rosa Curation. The hard work paid off and I was glad to be working with a talented team of people that believed in the project and could help bring it to life. Together, we threw a benefit concert called Rock for Rockwood with the likes of M.Ward, The Thermals, The Helio Sequence and Emily Wells. This worthy cause raised funds and awareness for a much needed safe space for youth in the Rockwood community. And from this, Music For Mental Health was born.
